Only from the heart can you touch the sky.
– Rumi
Are you moved by Suffering?
When you see a friend, family member, stranger or animal struggling and in pain, how do you feel?
Compassion towards others shows up as kindness, care, understanding, and wanting to be of support.
There is a deep desire to help alleviate the suffering the one you care for is experiencing.
How do you treat a close friend versus yourself?
It is often much easier to feel compassion towards others than it is to feel towards ourselves.
We often feel alone with our suffering, critical of ourselves, and cut off from connection.
What do you say to yourself when you are struggling? What tone do you use?
How would it feel to give yourself that loving kindness you can so easily connect to and give to others?
When We Resist Pain – We Suffer
Loss, worry, heartbreak, hardship and stress are inevitable.
However, when we resist this pain, we only feel more pain.
Self-compassion and mindfulness are resources to meet difficult experiences with less resistance.
What is Self-Compassion?
It involves treating yourself the way you would treat someone you care about.
Just as you would be there for a good friend no matter how bad they are feeling, you can learn how to be a good friend to yourself.
Self-compassion is rooted in the belief that all human beings deserve compassion and understanding.
This includes YOU!
How do you build self-compassion?
Self-compassion is made up of 3 elements: Self-kindness, Mindfulness and Common Humanity.
Together we will discuss the origins of your inner world and how you currently relate to yourself.
Mindfulness practices, self-compassion visualizations, meditations, discussions and journaling exercises will be experienced in session and developed outside of therapy to support you in cultivating your own self-compassion practices.
The Data doesn’t Lie…
Greater self-compassion is linked to less anxiety and depression. This internal shift is not just from thinking more positively.
Self-compassion is a a practice that helps you recognize suffering, be kind towards yourself and acknowledge how you are connected with the rest of humanity.
Self-compassion reduces feelings of isolation and is associated with greater wisdom and emotional intelligence, helping you navigate difficult emotions and repair emotional triggers.
It enhances motivation and improves the desire to reach your goals.
Self-compassion promotes health-related behaviors such as healthy eating habits, exercising more regularly, and engaging in other healthy behaviors for your body.
Relationships are also positively impacted by self-compassion. Increasing emotional connectedness while reducing controlling, verbally and physically aggressive behaviors. When you give yourself care and support, you can be a better partner.
